CFdesign For Solid Edge

CFD software

Here are some of the questions most commonly asked by engineers considering CFdesign CFD software.
1.
Does CFdesign use true geometry kernel integration to access CAD geometry, or does it rely on third-party step translators?
2.
Can CFdesign handle large assemblies? How about big models?
3.
Can CFdesign software handle electronics packaging?
4.
Are there any limitations for compressible flow simulations?
5.
Have the numerical codes used in the CFdesign solver been validated?
6.
Some CFD software seems to be for the “expert.” Others claim to be “easy to use,” and while others are almost look too “dumbed down” to be a serious tool. I am a good engineer but I am not a CFD expert. What makes CFdesign right for me?
7.
Does CFdesign support multiple processors?
8.
Does it cost more to use CFdesign on multiple processor systems?
9.
Can your product run analyses on multiple computers?
10.
Does Blue Ridge Numerics have the technical support staff depth to fully protect my company’s investment in your software?
11.
What Operating Systems are currently supported by CFdesign?
12.
What are the minimum hardware requirements for CFdesign?

1. Does CFdesign use true geometry kernel integration to access CAD geometry, or does it rely on third-party step translators?

A. CFdesign uses true CAD geometric integration based on the native geometry kernel. This is the most accurate method when using CAD geometry for CAE simulation, allowing parametric and topological changes to be read in seamlessly. Other translators are just that—translators. They do not provide a direct link to the geometry, they do not leverage a company’s CAD investment, and they do not support PDM and PLM initiatives.

2. Can CFdesign handle large assemblies? How about big models?

A. Yes and Yes. One of our customers recently ran a conjugate heat transfer simulation on a model with over 750 parts from the CAD assembly.

6. Some CFD software seems to be for the “expert.” Others claim to be “easy to use,” and while others are almost look too “dumbed down” to be a serious tool. I am a good engineer but I am not a CFD expert. What makes CFdesign right for me?

A. CFdesign is a serious design-analysis tool for the product development engineer. Our mission from day one has been to produce a fluid flow and heat transfer tool that combines depth of functionality with a simple, no-nonsense user interface. Our software designers and developers realize that our users need to get the job done, and have made a constant effort to combine the most sought-after and necessary physics with an innovative set of user controls and tools.

9. Can your product run analyses on multiple computers?

A. With the Fast Track option, multiple analyses can be set up on a user’s computer
and easily run on computers on your network. Each analysis is run on its own dedicated computer, leveraging un-used computing resources during off-hours.

10. Does Blue Ridge Numerics have the technical support staff depth to fully protect my company’s investment in your software?

A. Our technical support engineers are all fully versed not only in our software, but in our customer’s needs. All support members have direct communication with the development team, so no problem or issue is too large or too hard. Our support team has members in several locations throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. Most support issues are resolved in the first contact. The rest are typically resolved within a day.
